Gary Ray Michalek, 70, of Grants Pass passed away Sunday August 10, 2014 at Rogue Regional Medical Center. A celebration of life is being planned for a future date. For online condolences and tributes please visit stephensfc.com. Arrangements by Stephens Family Chapel, Grants Pass, Oregon. Gary was born on May 18, 1944 in Miller, South Dakota. He went to both Pukwana and Kimball High School and lettered in Football and Basketball. He joined the Navy at age 18 and traveled extensively in the Caribbean and along the East Coast. He earned the National Defense Service Medal before his honorable discharge in 1969: He had reached the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. He met and married Shirley Anne Bennett in Seattle, Washington in 1968. They had two children (Russell and Holly) when they moved to Grants Pass in 1984. Gary opened Meadowlark Gallery and Custom Frame Shoppe and worked there for the next 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with his grand-children (Adianka, Brycen, and Alexia), and siblings and loved the Miami Dolphins, gardening, and wine tasting, in no particular order. Gary is survived by his wife, Shirley Anne Michalek of Grants Pass, daughter, Holly Rae Michalek of Santa Rosa, Ca, and three grandchildren. He is also survived by brother's Roy Michalek and Ken Michalek of Vancouver Washington, Dick Michalek of Kent, Washington, and Jackie Myers of Pukwana, South Dakota. Preceded in death by son, Russell Anthony Michalek, Sister Kathy Michalek, Brother Lester Michalek Junior, and parents Lester and Marjorie Michalek.
