James Henry Fowler

James Henry Fowler, age 87, of Grants Pass, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass.

He was born September 9, 1935 in Beaumont, CA, son of the late Daniel Dude Fowler and Maude (Norcutt) Fowler. He was one of nine children.

He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, serving 4 years, beginning in 1955, stationed at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California and Andersen Air Force Base in Yigo, Guam.

In 1963 Jim enrolled in the Riverside County Police Academy and promptly joined the Corona Police Department after graduation.

In 1970 Jim moved with his first wife, Margaret (Spires) Fowler, his daughter Kathryn and son, Darin to Grants Pass, Oregon where he began his twenty five years working for the Grants Pass City Police Department, retiring in 1995 During his tenure, Jim especially savored his time working in investigations as a detective. He was a sharpshooter---winning multiple merit awards---later developing the ballistics training program for the entire department.

In 1980 he married Nadine Seidl. She would prove to be the great love of his life, and her son Greg Seidl, would be as dear to him as those he had raised.

Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved the outdoors. He was known for his love of community, of family and boisterous sense of humor. He served as an usher and attended bible study regularly at Calvary Lutheran Church. In retirement, Jim loved to travel with Nadine and tinker in his shop he built in his backyard. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of wartime aviation and took tremendous pride in crafting and flying remote control aircraft and was a member of the Rogue Valley Fliers.

Jim is survived by wife of 42 years, Nadine, daughter Kathryn Lamb, sons Darin Fowler and Brian Fowler and Stepson Gregory Seidl. He was grandfather to Melissa Fowler, Daniel Fowler, Margaret Stenger, Austin Seidl, and Brittany Seidl and great-grandfather to Darin Tran. He is also survived by his brothers Ray and Gary Fowler.
