James Edward Zimmerman

James E. Zimmerman James Edward Zimmerman, age 98, of Grants Pass, Oregon, died March 29, 2017, at Noble Heights Adult Foster Home. James was born on May 13, 1918, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He attended Bayonne High School, and joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 1940, serving as a boatswain's mate. After being honorably discharged in 1945, James married Deloris Vail in June of 1946. James and Deloris moved from Lomita, CA, to Grants Pass in 1980. He worked for Stauffer Chemical in Torrence, CA, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years, and of the Shriners for over 30 years. James enjoyed fishing, listening to Dixieland Jazz, and taking care of his animals, especially George, his miniature donkey. He is survived by two sons, James E. Zimmerman, Jr. (Patty) of Wendell, MN., and Brian Zimmerman (Julie) of Torrence, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edna Mae; wife, Deloris and wife, Carmeen; step-son, Pete Zimmerman; brother, Charles Zimmerman; and his sister, Ellen Meleniak. A memorial service will be held on, Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Masonic Lodge #84 in Grants Pass, OR. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in James' name to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
