Kenneth Lee Krauss

Kenneth Krauss, age 80, passed away on July 24, 2019 at his home with family by his side.
Ken was born January 15, 1939 to Fritz and Susan (Tolin) Krauss at their family home in Selma, Oregon. While growing up in the family home, he was active in 4-H and the Selma Baptist Church Youth Group. He played football and wrestled for Illinois Valley High School and represented the school in state competitions in both sports. He met his future wife, Lynda Zimmerman, in high school and the two married on December 22, 1957. Post-graduation, Ken attended Oregon State University, where their first two sons, Philip and Gary, were born. During summer breaks, Ken worked logging with his family throughout southern Oregon. Upon graduation from OSU with a degree in Industrial Arts Education, Ken and his family moved to Salem where their third son, Ronald, was born. Ken taught at Chemawa Indian School for 3 years before accepting a teaching position at Job Corps on the Oregon Coast. He later transferred to the Ft. Vannoy Job Corps in Grants Pass, where their fourth child, Kendra, was born. Ken finished his teaching career at South Junior High School where he taught wood shop and drafting. Then, in 1977, he started his own construction company which he operated until partial retirement in 2004.
Throughout his life, Ken remained active in his church and maintained his life-long interests in logging, logging equipment, ranching, livestock, horses and rodeo. Ken and Lynda enjoyed traveling to visit their children and grandchildren throughout the United States. They also enjoyed rock-hounding, taking trips to the Pendleton Round Up, and a trip to Germany to visit cousins and see where Ken's father, Fritz, was born. Ken and Lynda spent a summer building and working with a Mission Organization in New Mexico.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Susan Krauss, and his brother William (Bill) Krauss. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lynda, children Philip (Patricia), Gary (Jana), Ronald (Cathy), and Kendra (Ron) Hager, brothers Ernest and Kohath, a sister, Carmelita Hussey, along with 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Stephens Family Chapel, 1629 Williams Highway, Grants Pass on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.
