Louise K. Gumbert, age 78, of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center, Grants Pass. She was born on December 23, 1937, in Oxnard, California, to Claude and Lillian King. Louise attended grade school in Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura and graduated from Oxnard High School in 1955, and completed one year at Ventura Junior College. In July 1956, Louise began her Civil Service Career at the Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme, CA. In February 1957, she transferred to Point Mugu, CA, where she held many Branch and Division clerical positions, and performed secretarial duties for high ranking officials both military and civilian. After five years, she retired to start a family. On October 6, 1962, Richard Brian was born. Her second son, Donald Eugene, was born on November 9, 1965. It was during this time that she also worked part time at Hueneme High School as an attendance clerk. Upon returning to the Point Mugu workforce in 1973, she quickly mastered the numerous new technologies and work procedures in the secretarial field. Additionally, she eagerly learned ways to work more efficiently and shared that knowledge with peers. Her peers felt her dedication, attention to quality, and professionalism resulted in many well-deserved outstanding performance ratings and promotions. Louise retired after 27 years as a Resource Specialist in 1995, and moved to Oregon to be near family and failing parents. She loved to play different card games and belonged to different card clubs; liked different board games and crosswords. She also enjoyed team bowling, but her all-time favorite was country and ballroom dancing. Survivors include: son, Donald Eugene Gumbert; brothers, Claudell (Betty) King, Ron King, Phillip (Adelle) King; and countless awesome nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Richard Bryan Gumbert; parents Claude and Lucille King; and many aunts and uncles.
