Lupe Luevano, Jr

Lupe Luevano, Jr., 86, of Cave Junction, Oregon, passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at his home.

Lupe was born September 1, 1934, in Pittsburg, California, to Guadalupe and Henrietta Luevano. He was the oldest of five children: Alice, Fred, Mary, and Rose. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1953. Lupe then joined the United States Navy, and trained as a Machinery Repairman, Class "A". After training, he served aboard the destroyer the U.S.S. KIDD DD-661 during the Korean War. He served four years and was Honorably Discharged. Lupe then attended Oakland Junior College. In 1959, he moved to Tracy, California, after accepting a position at Site 300, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

In 1960, he married his love, Leticia (Gomez) and together had three children: Lu, Alicia and Elizabeth. They were married for almost 20 years when she passed in 1980. In 1988, Lu found love again and married Delma (Perez). His family expanded with the addition of her children, Phillip, Roseanne and Susan. After 39 years with Site 300, he retired.

Lu was devoutly Catholic and is affiliated with St. Bernard's Catholic, Tracy, California. He was also a member of the organization Noche de Ronde and he had many hobbies he enjoyed throughout his life. These included photography, astronomy, watching movies, working around the property of his home, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was the OG Master of DIY.

When visiting his brother, Fred, in O'Brien, Oregon, he fell in love with Cave Junction, Oregon, so, in 2000, he sold the home in Tracy and purchased his retirement destination, the home he loves in Cave Junction, where he passed away, surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe Luevano and Henrietta Luevano of Bay Point, California; his first wife, Leticia (Gomez) Luevano of Tracy, California; Lupe and Leticia's infant son, Phillip Luevano of Tracy, California; and brother, Fred Luevano of O'Brien, Oregon.

He is survived by his wife, Delma Luevano of Cave Junction, Oregon; son, Lu Luevano of Cave Junction, Oregon; daughters, Alicia Luevano Hickson (husband, Ned) of Florence, Oregon, Elizabeth Luevano (Chris), of Cave Junction, Oregon; step-children: Phillip Perez (Jamie) of San Ramon, California, Rosanne Dimenco, of Tracy, California, Susan Saldana (Bill) of Salida, California; sisters, Alice Luevano of Weiser, Idaho, Mary Venegas of Bay Point, California, Rose Luevano of Weiser, Idaho; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.

A service will be held at Stephens Family Chapel in Grants Pass, Oregon, on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. A mass will be scheduled for a future date in the fall at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Tracy, CA.
