Mary Jenner (87) of Grants Pass, OR passed away peacefully at home on December 12, 2023, after living
with Alzheimer’s disease for 9 years.
Mary was born August 25, 1936, in Price, Utah, to Gust (from Greece) and Matilda Hvala (from Austria)
Platis. Mary was one of 13 children. Growing up she inspired others and had the ability to uplift spirits.
Mary’s style, sophistication, and class left a lasting impression on many.
Mary excelled in high school, graduating in 1955 with honors from Carbon High School in Price, UT. She
was an active member of the Pep Club, Debate Team, a cheer leader, and theatre, starring as the lead
character in high school plays. In 1956 Mary enrolled in Corbon College, was an active member of the
Community Theatre and won the Miss Carbon County Pageant. After earning her Associate of Arts
degree in 1957 from Carbon College Mary moved to Los Angeles, CA to live with her sister.
In 1958 she met and married Ron Jenner, her husband of 65 years. They enjoyed many years together
raising their daughter Nicole in Orange County, CA. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family,
reading, gardening, and baking Greek pastries with her daughter Nicole for the Holidays: Spanakopita,
Baklava, Koulourakia (traditional Greek Easter butter cookies) and Kourampiedes (Greek Christmas
cookies). In 1984 they moved to Portland, OR where Mary worked as an office manager for Dawson
Creek Park. They eventually moved to Grants Pass, OR and spent many years traveling, cruising, and
enjoying retirement.
Mary was a devoted wife and nurturing mother. She had a strong faith in God, valued family, and a
strong sense of patriotism.
Mary is survived by Ronald, her husband of 65 years, her daughter Nicole, and her brothers and sisters:
Tom, Chris, Dean, Paulette, Connie and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her
father and mother, her brothers: George, Nick, John, Paul, and sisters: Bessy, Helen, and Vange.
