Mildred C. Haugen, 102, of Grants Pass died Dec. 13, 2011, at Fair View Transitional Health Center.

Haugen was born Oct. 21, 1909, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to George and Elsie Beatty. She attended Drake University, Iowa State Teachers College and Oregon College of Education, and earned a bachelor's degree in education. In Emmetsburg, she married Joseph Haugen, who died in 1994. In 1947, they moved from Grand Forks, N.D., to Bend, where they were members of Grace First Lutheran Church. In 1999, she moved to Grants Pass.

She enjoyed golfing and accomplished two holes-in-one. She also enjoyed singing, fishing and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons, Gary & Sharon Haugen of Salem, and Harold & Diane Haugen of Grants Pass; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren..
