Richard Figueras

Rich Figueras, age 67, passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2016, with his wife and Sam, his faithful golden retriever at his side, after a courageous five year battle against tonsil cancer.Rich was born in Paterson, New Jersey, in 1948, and grew up in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, playing basketball with his lifelong friend Frank Moloughney. He graduated Depaul High School in 1966. Rich joined the Army in 1968 and served honorably as a MP Dog Handler at Camp Huston, South Korea. Honorably discharged, he lived in Southern California and developed friendships with Larry Getzoff and Rick Jameson that lasted his lifetime.Always a lover of the great outdoors, Rich moved to Cedar City, Utah, in the mid 70's, and learned the construction trade with his good friends Jeff and Monica Stevens. After living in Maui for a year, Rich came back to the mainland in 1979 to live with Mary Riches, who became his wife in a ceremony performed by Rick Jameson in 1985.Rich and Mary had a wonderful, full life together sharing many adventures. The most special trips were those made with his best friend and younger brother Ron and his wife Tevilla. Together the four of them traveled to the Bahamas, Alaska and Costa Rica.A lifelong Yankee fan, golfer and basketball fan, March Madness was always a special time in the Figueras home. Since moving to Grants Pass in 2011, his brother Ron made it a practice to fly in, from wherever he was in the world, to watch the final four tournament with his brother. Rich actually won his 2016 NCAA basketball bracket.Rich is survived by his loving wife and companion of 37 years, Mary (Riches) Figueras. His brothers, Ron Figueras and wife, Tevilla Riddell, Robert Figueras, Raymond Figueras, and brother-in- law, Steven Riches.A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Zion Canyon National Park.A great loss to everyone that knew him and everyone he had yet to know.
