Rutha Ann (Poindexter) Huffman

Rutha Ann (Poindexter) Huffman, born May 7, 1947, in Marked Tree, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at home on February 8, 2026.

Ann was first married to Sammy Mason. Together they had two children, James David Mason and Carolyn Ann Mason.In 1971, the family moved to Grants Pass from California, where Ann made her home and lived for the remainder of her life. In 1976, Ann married Paul Huffman, and they welcomed a son, Zachary Paul Huffman of Grants Pass, Oregon.

Ann was deeply involved in her community. In the 1980s, she helped organize the Yellow Ribbon Coalition in Josephine County. During the 1990s, she dedicated many years of volunteer service to the Boy Scouts of America, Crater Lake Council, supporting youth and families.

Later in life, Ann found her professional calling as a certified Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA), working with individuals living with mental illness. She approached this work with compassion and commitment.

Ann enjoyed gardening, reading science fiction, and playing the slots. She was endlessly curious and creative, exploring many hobbies over the years, including fly tying, knitting, photography, and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her son, James David Mason (1989); her first husband, Sammy Jay Mason (1994); and her husband, Paul Alan Huffman (2023). She is survived by her children, Carolyn Mason of Eugene and Zachary Huffman of Grants Pass; her sister, Mary Stredde; her brother, Chuck Perry; and three grandchildren. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, her service to others, and her quiet strength.

The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by Asante Hospital and hospice. A private gathering will be held at a later time.
