Theresa Cain

August 21, 1915 — May 5, 2019

Theresa Cain passed away on 5 May, 2019 at 103 years old.

She was born 21 August 1915 to the late Mary and Julian Tarzanin in Brooklyn NY, who immigrated to the United States from Austria in 1904. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Taylor Cain, brothers Joseph, John, Stephen and Frank Tarzanin, sisters Emma Wehland, Gertrude Gates and Mary Hill. She is mourned by sister Ruth J Mitchell of Spring Hill, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Theresa proudly served the United States Marine Corps in World War II, honorably discharged in the rank of Private First Class. She met Taylor Cain, a civilian who fell for her uniform, when she served as an aircraft mechanic in Aviation Squadron 10, El Toro, California. After her discharge they married and moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where they resided until his death in 1999.
Theresa was active community member who rafted the Rogue River, fished, camped, hiked and cross-country skied. She was a founding member of the Grants Pass Nordic Club and Friends of Crater Lake National Park. She loved to roller skate.

Serious about fitness, Theresa took Tai Chi and attended exercise classes at the Grants Pass YMCA into her late 90's, and rode her exercise bicycle daily until shortly before she passed.
Theresa served as an assistant supervisor at the Grants Pass State Employment Department for 32 years. She was known for her enthusiasm, positive attitude and ready smile, attributes she maintained until her death.

In lieu of flowers, Theresa would wish for you to make a donation to Doctors Without Borders.
