Andrew Michael Rubin

June 8, 1948 ~ October 25, 2020 (age 72)

Obituary

Andrew “Andy” Michael Rubin was born on June 8, 1948, in Los Angeles California, he passed away on October 25, 2020, in Grants Pass, Oregon.

Andy was an authentic and genuine man with no filter, he called it exactly how he saw it, he was opinionated and trustworthy, kind and stubborn. There was no guessing how Andy thought or felt about any situation, because he would tell you, flat out!

Andy was successful in whatever business endeavor he pursued. He had a knack for listening to what people wanted and coming up with a solution for it! From used cars to designing and developing award-winning commercial and housing subdivisions.

Andy loved being physically active, meeting new people, traveling, visiting with longtime friends, storytelling, pretty ladies, beer, working out, walking his dog Carmen and golfing. Probably not in that order.

He golfed multiple times per week, whenever he was able. And he made it a point to be the first person to tee off whenever he could, even if it meant arriving when it was still dark out!

Andy was also on the board of a local animal rescue, which he cared deeply about. His eyes would light up every time he got to share a story and pictures of a rescue that he was involved with. His best girl, Carmen, was a rescue from years back, and he said that she was clearly the one who did the rescuing!

The Last 5+ years Andy battled with major heart issues. He was in and out of hospitals and emergency rooms, agreeing to every test and recommendation the doctors would give him. The most important thing to him was being able to continue his active lifestyle. When the prescriptions failed him and turned him into what he called, a lethargic-couch potato, he chose to stop all of them, to recover whatever physical abilities he could and enjoy as much quality of life, as possible.

At the end of his life he was having more bad days than good and becoming very physically weak. He wanted death with dignity, but the current laws failed to allow him to go the medically assisted route. Andy swore that no one else would ever wipe his ass! And when he realized that that was where he was quickly headed, he took matters into his own hands.

Andy lived his life his way, all the way! He passed at what he called, “his favorite place.”

Andy made us promise there would be no formal or religious gathering to say goodbye.

Everyone who knew Andy is asked to celebrate his life in their own way. Raising a glass of your favorite drink, in his memory, would have him smiling!

Making a donation in his name to his favorite animal rescue, critical pet rescue-p.o.box 5114, grants pass, or 97527 would be a kind gesture.
